HOW I WORK
My practice draws on a variety of different experiences. Drawing on my training in psychodynamic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, I work collaboratively with patients, in which we try to pick up on patterns from their conscious and unconscious thoughts and think about how early life events may be influencing the present. The idea behind this approach is that as people understand more about how their mind works, they will be able to think more effectively and make better choices.
As a psychiatrist, I prescribe medication in certain cases, particularly for those who have difficulties with their mood, anxiety, and concentration. Often, medication combined with psychotherapy can produce optimal results.
I also have training in the treatment of substance abuse disorders and work with people who are questioning their substance use, as well as those who feel they have a problem. In particular with substance using patients, I believe that frequent sessions, in combination with group and other forms of treatment, form the best framework for success and recovery. I am also a licensed prescriber of buprenorphine (also known as Suboxone or Zubsolv), which can be a helpful medication for people with opiate problems.
